Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund’s Celebratory Launch for the first breast cancer support group meeting for 2020 will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 555 Water Street, SW, Washington, DC 20024.
The topic of discussion is advocacy with guest speakers Julia H. Rowland, PhD, Senior Strategic Advisor, Smith Center for Healing and the Arts, who will discuss the meaning and importance of advocacy, complementary or integrative therapies and their role in quality cancer care, including debunking myths about these therapies; and Charity Sade, Founder and Lead Facilitator, Coping Through Comedy, who will discuss her diagnosis (pre and post and advocacy) as a 27-year-old Stage III3C Inflammatory Breast Cancer Survivor. Sade will lead and tell a comedic story and share how comedy became a coping mechanism to help her heal.
